Jazz Theme #1a

This video, entitled Jazz Theme #1a, is the first of two presentations. Each provides a different approach to the recording of an original jazz theme — written by Daniel Turner specifically for the bass guitar. The theme is notated in tablature format in the accompanying score (download link below). This particular video, of a performance on an Ibanez 6-string "fretted" bass guitar, was produced by blending two audio channels — one channel captured acoustics during the performance using a close-range microphone, and the second channel used a direct feed from the bass guitar's internal pre-amp. Both channels were converted from analog to digital in an Arturia AudioFuse audio interface before being blended in a Presonus digital audio workstation. The alternate version of this video, Jazz Theme #1b, was captured using a single direct audio feed from the pre-amp of an Ibanez 6-string "fretless" bass.
